Amateur Hour
Amateur Hour is a sports podcast covering the biggest topics across Australia’s two biggest sporting codes, the NRL and AFL. Hosted by great mates Jack and Bec, think of it as a poor man’s Hamish and Andy for footy nuffy's just like us.
Each month, we’ll dive into the hottest issues and biggest talking points from both the men's and women's competitions. We’ll do our best to put our biases aside as we dissect all of the key moments and plays of the season so far.
This podcast has been years in the making. Jack Aubrey and Bec Miller first met as Sydneysiders but now call Melbourne, Australia’s sporting capital, home. Jack has previously written online articles and live blogs for The Roar, while Bec is in her sixth season as a professional AFLW player for the mighty Richmond Tigers. She’s also spent time behind the mic, calling games for Melbourne’s own 3AW radio station. At the end of the day, we’re just a couple of nuffy's with a microphone in hand, so let’s see how this goes!

52 Games in the Making & 17 Teams Graded
It’s an away game for Bec this week as she heads Northside to Coburg, God's country, where Jack resides. The big talking point? Richmond’s AFLW Round 1 clash. The Tigers didn’t get the W, but Bec hit a career milestone - slotting not one, but TWO goals for the very first time in her 52-game career. From fullback to full forward, the unlikeliest of scorers found the sticks in the unlikeliest of ways, and she takes us inside what it felt like out on the ground and the cheeky line she delivered in the three quart time huddle. Plus, a roaming 'JA' conducts a post mortem with fans after the match.
With September looming, Jack and Bec turn their sights to the finals race across both codes - who’s pushing for the top 4 and who’s scrapping into the 8. Before pulling out the report cards and handing down a pass or fail grade to the teams already ruled out of finals contention.
And because it’s Amateur Hour, bias is not only allowed but encouraged. That means a little bit of extra airtime for the mighty Penrith Panthers and Sydney Roosters.
